About M GOO

How is all of this connected?
Are there processes in
systems, such as organisations and social structures, are there processes in
music, and is music a 'system'?
Well yes. All of these things are connected. Thinking in
systems
is a natural way of thinking about the world and everything in it.
What I do is to help organisations make sense of processes, and think about their organisational
systems, to address problematic situations.
Oh, and I also do
music
- writing, arranging, composition, recording,
radio
presentation, performance and theory tuition.
Any of that interesting?

There's plenty of information about me on my LinkedIn
profile.
However, there's a dryness in professional social networking, and perhaps what it can't express is how fascinating I find the complexity of the world, whether I'm exploring; business, music, radio, literature, film, contemporary art or politics.
So M GOO is a placeholder for stuff; things I'm interested in, or I'm already doing, or I'd like to do more of, and as a window into my world.
Current Projects
SCiO (Systems & Complexity in Organisation)
- I am passionate about supporting this community of professionals, which has been massively helpful in my personal development around practicing systemic thinking. It's also the best place I think in the UK to learn about systems thinking methods and how to apply them, for real.
As part of that role, I've worked closely with a team of professionals to set up a new apprenticeship at Master's level; 'Systems Thinking Practitioner', in England, to ensure that there is practice-oriented education for apprentices, along with meaningful assessment through Systems Practitioner Assessment, which relates to the technical aspects of systems thinking methods, and how they're practised in real roles, in real organisations.
Raiders Broadcast
- this is a great radio station, with varied, unconventional output and a great collection of colleagues, so I am privileged to be able to present and produce two regular, highly-rated, programmes for them; the weekly 'Tony Davenport's Jazz Session', and monthly world/folk show 'The Crossing'. All shows are available as Podcasts, for up to three months after airing - go check them out!
M GOO was also the publishing and production engine behind the Cognitive Dissonance
jazz duo, starting in 2004, and ending in 2024 with the untimely passing of Bryan Glutting. We used M GOO to manage our content on SoundCloud, as well as managing the independent release of our two CDs; Mine’s a Double
in 2007, and Generative Behaviour
in 2018, both of which are still available for fans of the duo.
Before Bryan left us we were working on a new project, titled 'Action Learning'; curating hours of material resulting from our studio improvisations, and adding new collaborative material from sympathetic contributors. I'm going to try and finish the project as tribute to Bryan's inspiration and friendship - watch this space!
